Single Versus Double - Incision Technique for the Repair of Acute Distal Biceps Tendon Ruptures : No Major Differences in a Randomized
نویسنده
چکیده
The authors of this clinical trial evaluated outcomes of the single versus double-incision techniques for acute distal biceps tendon repair. Patients who had an acute distal biceps rupture were randomly assigned to one of two groups: single-incision repair with two suture anchors (forty-seven) or double-incision repair with transosseous drill holes (forty-four). Follow-up evaluations were performed at three, six, twelve, and twentyfour months after the operation. The primary outcome was the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) elbow score, whereas secondary outcomes were muscle strength; complication rates; and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) and Patient-Rated Elbow Evaluation (PREE) scores. The groups did not differ significantly with regard to mean age, percentages of dominant arms affected, or Workers’ Compensation cases.

Single versus double-incision technique for the repair of acute distal biceps tendon ruptures: a randomized clinical trial.
BACKGROUND This clinical trial was done to evaluate outcomes of the single and double-incision techniques for acute distal biceps tendon repair. We hypothesized that there would be fewer complications and less short-term pain and disability in the two-incision group, with no measureable differences in outcome at a minimum of one year postoperatively. METHODS Patients with an acute distal bice...
متن کاملAnatomic Single-Incision Repair of Distal Biceps Tendon Ruptures Using Flexible Reamers
Distal biceps tendon ruptures are treated operatively in active healthy individuals. Treatment consists of either single- or double-incision techniques, each with its own set of advantages and complications. The double incision was traditionally preferred for a more anatomic reattachment of the distal biceps tendon, but there has been renewed interest in the single-incision anterior approach gi...
متن کاملDistal Biceps Tendon Repair: 1-Incision Versus 2-Incision Techniques
Treatment options for distal biceps tendon ruptures include nonoperative and operative approaches. Candidates for conservative nonoperative management include elderly low-demand patients, those in whom surgery is contraindicated because of medical comorbidities, and those who are unable to adhere to the strict postoperative rehabilitation regimen. Data have clearly shown the superiority of oper...

Distal biceps tendon ruptures are rare injuries that usually occur in middle-aged men. Most of these injuries are repaired acutely to restore preinjury function and strength. There is concern regarding the higher prevalence of certain complications with the double-incision technique. As such, the single-incision technique has also been studied to determine if it may produce superior safety and ...
متن کاملSingle-Incision Anatomic Repair Technique for Distal Biceps Tendon Rupture Using Tunneling Device
Distal biceps tendon ruptures are uncommon and generally occur in men aged 30 to 50 years in their dominant arm as a result of a strong eccentric load. Numerous surgical exposures and methods of fixation exist for repair of a ruptured distal biceps tendon. The goal of surgical management is to restore the anatomic footprint of the biceps tendon on the radial tuberosity to maximize flexion stren...
